What do you do
for patients who are highly sensitive and fearful of going to the
dentist?
What would you suggest for a 55 year
old woman with lots of old fillings who wants a prettier smile?
What are the
benefits of a Night Guard and why is it so important?
Dr. Derenzy is highly trained in
Pain Management, and in a form of relaxation called Oral Conscious
Sedation, which requires a special permit in the State of Oregon.
Dr. Derenzy is a big advocate of pain-free dentistry so during your
first “Happy Visit” we will discuss your options for Nitrous Oxide
or Oral Conscious Sedation.
Nitrous Oxide is an excellent anxiety-reducer, as well as
pain-reducer, and is completely safe and effective. The nice benefit
of Nitrous Oxide is that it is completely gone from your system
before you leave the office, meaning you can drive yourself to and
from your appointment with no lingering effects. If we try Nitrous
Oxide and it didn’t quite get you as comfortable as you would have
liked, then the next option is Oral Conscious Sedation. Dr. Derenzy
will prescribe you a pill that generally is taken the night before
your appointment to help you sleep worry-free. You then take one
pill an hour before your appointment, and you MUST have someone
drive you to and from your appointment. Dr. Derenzy often calls this
the “Magic Pill” because the success rates with highly anxious
patients are phenomenal. Often you won’t even remember the
appointment, and many patients actually sleep through the entire
visit.
Obviously, there are many different
needs for the variety of personalities and desires that individuals
have. To be honest, there are many options. The first and easiest
recommendation would be Teeth Whitening. This is very safe, very
effective, and we are not irreversibly damaging the teeth. This
would be the first phase in any Smile Rejuvenation. The next phase
would be determining how large the old fillings are, so we could
determine if these fillings need simple replacement, or would need a
larger, more durable restoration like a porcelain crown or onlay.
Once whitening is complete, we can then match the new whiter shade
of the teeth to the new restorations to give a much more natural
result. Now, if this lovely 55 year old woman had crooked and
crowded teeth, or large spaces, then we would discuss Invisalign
invisible braces to straighten the smile. In today’s fast-paced
society, an instant result is often desired. We would then discuss
what some call “instant braces,” which are simply Porcelain Veneers
that give the appearance of straight, gorgeous teeth. Invisalign and
Veneers would be pursued as the final phase of the Smile
Rejuvenation. A lot of options are out there, and Dr. Derenzy would
be very happy to discuss what your goals for your smile are.
How many days a week do you wake up
feeling absolutely fabulous? Do you suffer from Neck pain or
Migraine headaches? Not to answer a question with a question, but if
you wake up not feeling fabulous every day but instead have sore jaw
muscles and radiating neck pain or headaches at least 2 days a week,
Dr. Derenzy can help. Try biting down on a pencil with your back
teeth right now. Notice how tense the muscles alongside your back
cheeks and temples get. Now bite on that pencil with your front
teeth – see how the tension is gone from these areas. During periods
of sleep or stress, many people clench subconsciously, causing
extreme muscle activity that can lead to tension headaches or
Migraine. Dr. Derenzy can analyze your symptoms, and often will
decide to fabricate you a custom made NTi-Plus appliance that will
often reduce or even eliminate your symptoms. This appliance has
been FDA approved for treatment of Migraine! Some have called this
nothing short of miraculous, as they have been to the Chiropractor,
the Acupuncturist, or their physician. Ultimately the only thing
they can do is to medicate themselves when the symptoms are already
there. The approach Dr. Derenzy uses is to try to eliminate the
cause of the headache, not to simply treat it with medication. If
you could reduce or eliminate your headaches, how much would you pay
for that? Many have paid in the thousands with disappointing
results. The NTi-plus costs just $477, and generally we assume that
your insurance will NOT pay for it. However, the benefits for
headache sufferers, or even those who are simply grinding away their
natural enamel far outweighs the cost of this appliance. It will
help protect your teeth and likely improve your daily outlook on
life if you are dealing with constant tension and headaches.
